5 Tips From The Rock Star Life

Rock stars are just like the rest of us, only more so. They’re bolder, wilder, more prone to outrageous things (that aren’t always good for them), and more prone than the rest of us to live the life they want — come hell or high water and caution be damned. What do they know that the rest of us don’t? They know you only go ’round once, so why not live it up while you can?

One: Eschew Convention. Put all your eggs in one basket, like Viola Davis, Einstein or Meryl Streep. Drop out of college and start your own business like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Blake Mycoskie (founder of TOMS). Major in something you love and figure out what to do with it along the way. Scuba dive, even though you’re scared of sharks. Jump from a plane — and, sure, look before you leap, but leap, do leap. Think you’re not the type? Think again. We can all eschew convention, even just a little bit. Wear a costume when you drop your kids off for school on Halloween, or don a red dress like The Bloggess.

One. Take The Wild And Untrodden Path. The only true path is the one that no one has walked but you, the one you hack from the Wildnerness with the sharp blade of your own true self.

Three: Find Your Tribe. Find the people who can see your vision, and speak the truths you are needing to hear. These are the voices that will sustain you when the road gets rough. And when they fall silent — which even they sometimes will — you’ll have the memory of your communion to keep you strong.

Four: Embrace The Wayfarer’s Way. Embrace the wanderer’s road. Life can’t be tamed anyway. It will show you where it wants you to go — and if you are especially wise, you will follow.

Five: Rock Out… Like there’s no tomorrow.
