Sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind and be the original you. There is none other like you on all this Earth and in all of Time. Don’t waste the precious opportunity you’ve been given. Don’t shrink and make yourself small. Don’t retreat into fear and let it make of you a lawyer or a banker when what you really want to be is a writer or a golf pro. Whoever you are, whatever you want, there is always a way. I won’t promise you the way will be easy, but I can promise you that it will be worth it. No one ever lay on their death bed thinking, I wish I’d been less me.
If you always wanted to write, start now. You don’t have to quit your job. You just have to find 30 minutes a day, an hour if you can spare it, to put some words on the page. Always wanted to cook? Get cooking. Make a meal for a sick or grieving friend. Have friends over for a meal. Volunteer to cook a Thanksgiving meal for the homeless. Make dinner for your own little brood. Find a way. The main thing is to just cook.
Do the thing you are longing to do. Maybe it will become a second (or first) career. Maybe it will “just” be a hobby. It really doesn’t matter at this point. The point is to do it, to find a way to be more of who you are in the world. After all, there is no higher calling than to be your true and original and singular self.
